Still Purging
Ok, so I'm still in my "purge the apartment till it hurts" mode. It's kinda become addiction-like. I have to throw things out on a daily basis or I don't feel like I've been productive. Yesterday I took a load of stuff to the local dump - including a broken recliner and a very old, very thread-bare nasty oriental rug. No, it never was a nice rug, so it was ok to let it go. I'm always amazed at the things I've held on to over the years. I keep thinking that if I continue in this manner, I WILL find Jimmy Hoffa and solve the mystery.
I did start a quick knitting project today. It comes from a neat little book called "The Comfort Zone" by Juliet Bawden. It's not a knitting book, but it's got lots of projects for the home, and this little project happens to be knitted. It's a VERY simple little bath mat, in garter stitch, knitted out of scraps of fabric instead of yarn. It's very cool! For fabric, I'm using an old king size bed sheet (I no longer have a bed that big, so the sheets are pretty much useless) which has stripes of muted blues, greens, purples and golds. I've cut the sheet lengthwise with the stripes so the mat has a quasi striped effect. Oh, and it's knitted with size US 13 needles. It's like knitting with telephone poles after the US1's I've been using for those socks (which I've put on the back burner for a little bit. I think I'm going blind from the small stitches). So, I should have a new bath mat in a day or so, and then maybe I'll have the notion to get back to those socks....

I will have to check that book out. There are a few projects in the Mason Dixon book that use fabric scraps that have my interest.
I just need more hours in the day. Quitting my day job isn't an option at this point.
I look forward to the photos!

It would be so good for me to do the "purge 'til it hurts" thing. Mostly it would do my husband good. He's the packrat in this relationship. But we have a big house and a lot more can be "hidden." It used to be easier for me to get rid of crap when we had a garbage service, but now David takes stuff himself to the recycling center and I can't slip stuff out the back door. Damn. ;)
Way to go, Dave. Though HGTV would have us believe that the old recliner could be reused as a coffee table or something, I feel it's good to let go of at least some stuff. Very refreshing.
What? No king size bed? Then where will I sleep??? *giggles*
Keep on purging, honey, it's so good for you. Nasty 'ol oriental rug probably walked into your house all on it's own without an invitation or anything! It can't be your fault, nooo, I'm sure it can't. You'd never carry in such a beast!!
I went through the purge thing when we were packing to move up here...and then got here and damn if I didn't end up throwing out more stuff. It was a WTF was I thinking when I packed whatever it was that hit the highway...but, it was kind of crazy that the company paid to move stuff that just went bye-bye...
I love to purge! Well, purge stuff at least. But it always amazes me that I can think I've really got an area under control and then 6 mo later I have to do it again. I can't imagine trying to clear this place out to move. I think the best thing would be to go through each room and pack what I wanted to keep and then have someone else just dump the rest of the stuff. I always think...hey I could use this for...not that it ever happens. But it could...see king size sheets that don't fit anything :-)
Maybe Jimmy is in your Pea Green couch! We did major purging over the last month. It will be interesting to see how empty things are when the apartment is back together.
