Organizing Stash
I've never been good at organizing. Ever. I just don't think that way. I deal really well with clutter, and I don' tmind having a few things out of place. So, now that I have some time, I decided to attempt to organize my life and throw out stuff I don't need. I also decided to try to organize my stash so that I could fine yarn I bought easily, and to see what it was I actually bought or was given.
I have this odd little room in my apartment that about 7' by 18'. Yeah, odd. And it's been paneled with knotty pine, and has a wall of built in shelves. These shelves are not very deep, and not very fuctional at all. So, what I ended up doing was to use them for video tapes, CD's, and my stash and knitting books. I have several baskets stuffed with yarn. One for yarn from Dave, and one for yarn from my Dye-O-Rama buddy Cayli, and other baskets for purchased yarn, and little things I have been working on or swatching. I also have yarn in the wardrobe closet (the acrylic stuff I won't admit to most people that I have - so it's tucked away so no one will be offended...), and on top, vases with knitting needles, and a wire basket of some swatching. If you look closely, there is a very old "Alka Seltzer" bottle next to the little lamp. In it are my Grandmothers tiny crochet hooks she used to make doilies. They're like a little treasure. I have no desire to crochet anything with those tiny hooks, but they're nice to have.
This wasn't very easy for me, and I'm sure someone who is "anal retentive" would probably walk in and arrange it all differently, but for now, this is where it is, and this is where I'm keeping it. For now....

Really like what you did with that room. It looks so cozy and everything is so easy to find...you have been busy.
7 X 18? Sounds like the bedroom of our second apartment. Just enough room for the bed to fit. Nothing could squeeze between the head/foot of the bed and the wall. The wood paneling makes your special room look all warm and cozy. Just a wonderful place to relax and craft. Enjoy it.
That room is bigger than this tiny one room studio! And what you've done with it is fantastic, it really shows all the work you've been up to. It's the perfect use for those shelves. Hell, it's a nice Men's Den.
Very cool! That's for the little peek. I like the knitting needles in the vases and the baskets of yarn. (no, let's not discuss acrylic the we may or may not have ;) )*stares distractedly at Dave's yarn* ... what was I saying? oh. I love the room! :)
Just where the heck are you going to keep my laundry baskets?
Nice job on the organization..it has to feel great!

It looks great Paul! Very cozy and relaxing and nice to have all your treasures close at hand! LOL and I'm glad I'm not the only one with an acrylic stash in the closet *G*
Thanks for all your kind words! And the acrylic isn't "Red Heart", but Coats & Clark "TLC" Caramia, and TLC Cotton Plus, both worsted weight, so it's a little variation on Red Heart. There are 3 ball of Red Heart Ltd. "Kiss", which is a novelty yarn - not quite an eyelash yarn, but very fuzzy and soft. I must really trust you all to confess the actual brands in my closeted acrylic stash... And since I'm confessing, I got it all when I was first starting to knit again back in January at one fo the local dollar stores. How redneck is that, I ask you? Hehehehe...
Oh, what I wouldn't do for shelves like those! I think it all looks great! I don't like it when things are arranged all perfect like a magazine photo. It never seems real. Good job!
Well as long as it works for you! That's what counts. Looks good to me.
Awww, your room looks great, hon. You really did a good job. And, ummm... a redneck knitter?? You??? I'm going to giggle myself to death all day thinking of that one! (just as soon as I figure out how I'm going to put my laundry basket next to Ann's. Ohh.. wait.. I forgot.. I don't like other people to do my laundry. *grins* nevermindddd *more grins n hugs*)
Love the room. It looks so nice compared to my very unorganized one. *Hangs head in shame* You have come close to making me want to organize mine. Close.
Your grandmother's little crochet hooks will work well for retrieving dropped stitches. Umm not that you ever drop one accidentally.
Your "cluttered organization" loks like mine! I think it makes it more unique than "sterile organizaion". Welcome to the swap, btw- my first male paticipant! yippee!
Wow...what a great room! I wish I had something like that where I could stash my stuff. My yarn tends to sit on the coffee table where I can gaze longingly at it...even the old acrylic stuff.
