Teaching Knitting

Hey. Tonight at 6:00 my friends Eileen and Sandee are coming over to teach Sandee how to knit. Eileen is a knitter, so we kinda volunteered to teach Sandee. Sandee crochets, so working with yarn is not alien to her. It should be an interesting evening. If I know my friends, we'll spend more time laughing than knitting. Maybe during the course of the evening, I'll get to finish up the main body of the mitten I'm working on. I've ordered 5" dpns to do the thumb. I have 8" at the moment (or maybe they're 7"...), which I like using, but as the mitten gets thinner with all the decreasing, I'm thinking a shorter needle will make it easier to maneuver. Ann had mentioned that size matters....

I will take pictures of this evenings festivities. I'm not promising to post any, but we'll see what happens. Wish us luck.....

Sounds like a great time. Will definitely look forward to the post and possibly pictures.

Hmmm shorter easier to maneuver, you say you prefer the shorter ones... hmmm I would have thought it would the other way around ;-)

Have fun tonight. I have taught people how to knit and crochet both. Teaching knitting is much easier than teaching crochet.

Have fun. When I hear the roars of giggling, I'll know it's you folks.
I think you'll like the 5", I founf them easier to use than the 7". The longer needles tended to slip out a lot when I was making thumbs, and on the decreases. Shorter is better.

You had to know that comment about the length was going to come from somewhere. For once I didn't start it. But I am only too happy to jump into the middle of things.

I prefer the shorter sized needles, maybe because my hands aren't overly large.

What's that quote about well-endowed feet = well endowed needles?

:o)

Have a great time tonight, I am jealous all of my knitting buddies live too far away. Sounds like I need a road trip!

Personally, I think it's more about skill than size...
