Swatching...
Okay, so I'm doing a little swatch of this yarn, Trekking XXL, for the Trek-A-Long. I've swatched with a size US1, and a size US2 (The US2 is the needle in the pic. I used US1 for the beginning part which is the first section below the garter stitch divide). I'm thinking that I like the look and feel of the US1. It's a closer knit, which I think would be really good for socks to hike in.
I think I have till August 31 to finish them and get a pic of me hiking in them.... I think I'm screwed....

ohhh what fun colors! You're gonna be fine. You'll probably be through way ahead of time. So, how do you like the Trekking yarn? I think I agree with you on the 1s...but LOL I am surely not an expert!
Go with the 1s. you'll be fine. the tighter fabric is definitely worth it.
The tighter gauge looks lovely, but how does it feel? Now you have me thinking about 1s instead of 2s, not to mention joining the Trek-A-Long, for my first foray with this yarn. Thanks for the inspiration!
Best of luck, Paul! :-p
Good luck with finishing and hiking! I like the look of the 1s the best...but, then I tend to like the look of tighter knitting. The colors are really cool...
Oh, crap, you've started already? Damn! I haven't even taken my yarn out of the bag yet. lol
Paul hon, you will do just fine. Just remember to breath ;-)
I love the colorway - I also like the look and feel of 1's, even though the last two pair of socks I knit on 1's for DH, he said they were great but he could not wear them all day at work because he 'could feel every stitch' on the stockinette bottoms. He does a lot of standing and walking, so wondering how the XXL will work?!? I didn't use XXL for his - so that might make a big difference.
Hi Paul! Thanks for visititng and all the sweet compliments!
The DPN's I'm using are actually AERO since they are the ONLY metal DPNs I've found that come in a true US#1 size! They are a 2.25mm where skacel(addi)are 2.5mm!
AERO are actually made by the same company as Inox (Prym) but are MUCH cheaper. The caveat is AEROs are only sold in Canada and only come in packets of 4 (vs. 5) needles. I love my Aeros and order 2 packs so I have spares (and they're still cheaper than Inox!) I get mine here: www.yarnforward.com

Hope this helps!
I LOVE your choice for the Trek Along! I'd stick to the #1's for socks that will last! Happy Knitting :)
Seems that lately, I'm always opting for a tighter gauge in my knitting. I like a denser fabric, myself.
I also found us1 to be a better feel and look for this yarn. great colors by the way!!
Well, I'm not the only one that likes a tighter gauge, especially for socks. So it takes a bit longer to knit-- no big deal! More fun for the buck! hahaha Altho' tighter gauge doesn't have as much stretch -- hmm, always something!
When doing a swatch, remember that the pattern of colours will NOT look the same once you start doing it in the round. Remember too that a larger tube will not look the same as a smaller tube. So you have to make a real-life-sized swatch to know for sure. Oh, just go with it! What happens, happens; and you will love it anyway!
